Admittedly it was something I had posted and he was reacting, however it was BEFORE the mentioned post. If he were really wanting to stop he would have said so in that thread AS WELL as here.

The country is going to poodle and the old morals have disappeared, while Imperial Britain may not be the way forward now I see no reason why the old adage 'an Englishman's word is his bond' does not apply.

Yeah I've heard that before. But what with me being English and iron no longer being fairly unbreakable or as rare as it was back when Mr. Genghis was around (Kahn meant king, so Mr. King doesn't work) it no longer really applies.

While it is still valid I feel that today's audience see's iron as a fairly commonplace thing, and so a result of that viewpoint is that your word is just another everyday thing.
Admittedly if it is an intellectual (i.e NOT a modern audience) they will understand that you are referring to Genghis Kahn and that iron was a relatively new thing back then and so it was a big deal.
In context it makes sense, but without it in today's society it makes you look a complete gimp and you'd get a load of 'WTF IRON'S poodle INIT!' or something similar.

Iron represents something solid, something hard and strong. That is why "my word is iron" represents their word being strong, with people finding it hard to break etc...

To be perfectly honest, Chav's are not the type of people I talk to therefore me saying "My word is iron" won't be mocked

It would seem we will agree to disagree then.
I will say one last thing:
It all depends on how you look at it.
Owh and here, for me, is the straw that breaks the camels back.
My life philosophy can't be used out loud by me because not only are they chavs in my school but they are all anti-english (well most of them) and so when (as I have once or twice) I say it out loud I am usually promptly attacked by 3-4 people.
